Katrina Hurricane summary

Katrina Hurricane damaged the Louisiana’s wetlands, which is unlikely to grow back.

The vegetation along water sources have literally disappeared and the leftovers have become unhealthy. Katrina also took a devastating toll on the local sea harvests.

Two-thirds of Louisiana's oysters may have been destroyed, therefore US has decided to import from other countries. Thousands of fishermen who depended on the oyster industry find themselves to be unemployed and unsettled.

Floodwater in the city became contaminated through household chemicals; petroleum; disturbed underground gas pipes and oil tanks, human corpses and dead pets. Which in return, placing dredged material for a platform for the plants to grow on.

The Louisiana Coastal Area Ecosystem Restoration Plan is also planning to rebuild barrier islands and replant lost marsh grass.
